Our favorite salad items travel too far. Lettuce and tomatoes are highly perishable, but our food system requires that many of these items travel for a week or more before getting to our supermarkets shelves.
Lettuces with taste, crispness, and vitamins
Over 90% of the US lettuce crop is grown in California: a five or six day truck journey from many American cities and towns. With a natural shelf life of around 10-12 days, lettuces arrive on our shelves with less than half their natural shelf life remaining and most of their flavor and vitamins gone.

Tomatoes grown for taste
Many hothouse tomatoes are grown tougher so they can withstand the long trucking distances. Tomatoes with tough skins and low sugar content are then picked still green to withstand the long haul journey from Mexico or Canada. They taste hard and watery.

Our fruit and vegetables are grown onsite for taste and nutrition and not for shelf life. We harvest every day and deliver to your supermarket on that same day. Transportation takes minutes not days. This means the consumer buys their favorite produce items within 24 hours of harvest.
